Somalia Economic Conference

About this event

The 1st edition of the ‘Somalia Economic Conference’ will be held on 30th and 31st of May 2023 in Mogadishu at AAIA SAF Hangar. Organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) of the Federal Government of Somalia, the Somalia Economic Conference is held in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Somalia, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the Office of the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, the Somali Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) with its Somalia Network of Enterprises Development Units (EDUs), SomInvest, IBS Bank, the EU Delegation to Somalia, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Notably hosting the 2nd Italia-Somalia Business and Trade Forum and the 1st Somalia Private Sector Partnership Meet – the Somalia Economic Conference has been endorsed by H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, during H.E.’s Presidential State visit to Italy in February 2023, as well as by H.E. Jibril Abdirashid Haji, Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Federal Government of Somalia, during a round table at the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Rome (ITPO Italy) at the presence of the Italian Government and private sector. The Somalia Economic Conference has been inspired by the growing interest of the Somali government and private sector to promote Somalia as a destination for business opportunities to international companies and meet the local demand for innovative technology and know-how. As the specialized agency of the United Nations with the unique mandate to accelerate Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development and Progress By Innovation, UNIDO is supporting the Somali interest by organizing this Conference and facilitating interactions, B2B and B2G meetings during the event.
