About this event
New Generation Lithuania, a national Recovery and Resilience Plan, foresees around 700M EUR to foster digital transition. This plan includes the facilitation of 5G roll-out and the promotion of mobility innovations, among other measures. One of the actions is 5G Sandbox initiative planned by the Ministry of Transport and Communications - a legal, regulatory and financial environment for testing and putting into practice under real conditions the 5G connection-based innovations in mobility and other sectors. For the purposes of continuity, a financial support mechanism is being developed and EUR 24.5 million have been allocated for this initiative. This autumn Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications will launch open calls for different vertical industries, thematic mobility calls and start-up calls. Lithuanian 5G sandbox is being built on the experience and practices of other countries, including the UK. The UK’s 5G Testbeds & Trials programme was set up in 2017 to build business case around 5G, fostering its ecosystem and bringing together a range of stakeholders as well as leading research and development of 5G technology applications. The programme, supported by the UK Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), was made up of numerous independent project consortia (partnerships) comprising large and small businesses, academia and local authorities who together tried out a large number of innovative 5G solutions, driven by market need or market opportunity. Key objectives: • Highlight and promote opportunities that 5G technologies could bring for economies and societies and explore the ways in which businesses can utilise 5G technology. • Discover innovative 5G use cases and product offers from the participants of the UK 5G Testbeds and Trials Programme • Promote business engagement and international cooperation in 5G trials under the Lithuanian 5G sandbox initiative.
