About

This challenge reflects the Municipal GovTech Ecosystem Policy’s principle of open innovation, using technology to protect citizens and strengthen resilience. It proposes a distributed IoT network of solar-powered sensors that collect environmental data such as precipitation, soil moisture, UV radiation, noise, and particulate matter.

Data is transmitted through LoRaWAN to the municipal platform “Portoviejo Previene”, providing authorities and citizens with real-time alerts and historical records.

Main benefits:

  • Early warning system for floods and climate risks.

  • Monitoring of air quality, noise, and UV radiation for public health.

  • Evidence-based decision-making for urban and environmental planning.

The initiative involves collaboration among the Risk Management Directorate, Environmental Sustainability offices, technology companies, and universities, ensuring scalability and integration into Portoviejo’s smart city agenda
