About

Researchers from the Structural Elements Dynamics and Fracture group at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid develop protection solutions for people, vehicles, aircraft, and critical infrastructures subjected to impulsive loads such as explosions and impacts. Their work is grounded in solid mechanics–based analysis to understand structural response under extreme dynamic conditions.

The group provides capabilities for analyzing, simulating, and mitigating the effects of impulsive events by combining advanced numerical modeling, experimental testing, and resilient design strategies. This integrated approach enables the evaluation of structural performance, identification of vulnerabilities, and development of protection and reinforcement measures adapted to different operational scenarios.

The technology and expertise support safer designs for transportation systems, defense applications, and industrial infrastructures exposed to high-energy events. The combination of simulation and experimental validation allows reliable assessment of protective solutions and contributes to improving safety, structural integrity, and risk reduction.

Collaboration sought:
Cooperation agreements in R&D&I are sought with research groups, technology centers, and companies in the transportation, defense, and industrial sectors, including the development of industrially oriented PhD projects and the execution of joint experimental campaigns focused on analyzing, testing, and improving protection solutions against impulsive loads.
