PaaSIoT (Packaging-as-a-Service IoT) is an end-to-end digital platform that enables closed-loop reusable packaging systems. It integrates three core components: IoT-enabled smart collectors for container return, QR-code and blockchain-based traceability for full lifecycle tracking, and a gamified consumer mobile app with EcoToken rewards and accessibility features.

The system provides real-time data on return rates, container condition, and environmental impact (CO₂ and waste avoided), giving operators and municipalities the tools to manage, optimise, and scale reusable packaging programmes.

Developed by Go Zero Waste (Barcelona, est. 2019) in partnership with Lúcid (IoT hardware) and Sparsity Technologies (UPC spin-off, software and data), PaaSIoT is currently at TRL 7 and has been piloted in Barcelona's food retail sector.

The platform is designed for deployment across HoReCa, food retail, events, corporate canteens, and municipal zero-waste programmes. It supports compliance with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), the Single-Use Plastics Directive, and Spain's Royal Decreto 1055/2022.

We are looking for partners in RIVCircular eligible regions — particularly municipalities, HoReCa operators, food retailers, waste management entities, and research centres — to co-develop, adapt, and demonstrate PaaSIoT in new territorial contexts.
