My organisation

The Coimbra Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research (iCBR) is a leading multidisciplinary research center within the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, dedicated to advancing high-quality translational research that bridges the gap between fundamental discoveries and clinical impact. Our Mission & Vision: We drive innovation in healthcare by investigating molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying chronic diseases, identifying novel therapeutic strategies and biomarkers, and implementing cutting-edge approaches to enhance quality of life and care provides. At iCBR, we create a collaborative ecosystem where scientific excellence meets clinical expertise. Research Excellence Across Six Strategic Domains. Our research is organized into six specialized strands, each co-led by clinical and fundamental researchers to ensure comprehensive, bench-to-bedside approaches: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Diseases Systemic Inflammatory and Metabolic Diseases Neuropsychopharmacology and Brain Diseases Vision Diseases Environment, Genetics and Oncobiology Ageing and Quality of Life Our Collaborative Strength With over 200 researchers—including more than 100 PhD holders spanning both scientific and clinical disciplines—iCBR offers unparalleled multidisciplinary expertise. Strategic Partnerships Our close partnerships with leading healthcare institutions, including ULS Coimbra (Coimbra University Hospital) and IPO-Coimbra (Oncology dedicated hospital), ensuring direct pathways for clinical translation.
