MSCA PF Hosting Offer - Neurogliovascular unit from development to function using advanced live imaging
About
Based in the beautiful and historic scientific hub of Coimbra, Portugal, our lab offers access to highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams.
We are seeking MSCA fellowship candidates for two distinct profiles:
· Profile 1 (Physics/Optics): To adapt innovative optical tools for the neonatal brain.
· Profile 2 (Computational/Mathematical Modeling): To develop analysis scripts and predictive mathematical models.
Keywords: Neurogliovascular Unit (NVU), In Vivo Two-Photon Imaging, Optical imaging, Neonatal Brain Development, Neurovascular Coupling, Multidisciplinary Imaging, Translational Medicine.
Why Apply with Dr. Vanessa Coelho-Santos as Your Supervisor?
-
Proven MSCA Success: Having successfully secured an MSCA fellowship herself, Dr. Coelho-Santos understands exactly what the European Commission evaluates. She provides elite, hands-on mentorship during the proposal writing phase to maximize your score.
-
Rapid Career Acceleration: As a Junior Group Leader with strong international ties, competitive funding she offers fellows global networking avenues and an excellent launchpad for independent careers.
-
Commitment to Diversity & Mentorship: Dr. Coelho-Santos is a passionate advocate for science outreach, mentorship, and promoting women and underrepresented groups in STEM.
Profile Summary:
The VCoelho-Santos Lab, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra (FMUC) and based at the Coimbra Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research (CIBIT), is led by former MSCA and La Caixa Fellow Dr. Vanessa Coelho-Santos. We specialize in decoding the development, maturation, and function of the neurogliovascular unit (NVU). Our lab pioneers high-resolution, longitudinal in vivo two-photon live imaging to track cerebral capillary networks and neurovascular coupling from early development to adulthood.
What We Offer to a Consortium:
· Advanced Experimental & Translational Pipelines: High-resolution in vivo imaging of the neonatal and adult brain, chronic cranial windows, and disease models spanning neurodevelopmental, vascular, and metabolic disorders.
· Multidisciplinary Innovation: Natively bridging medicine, biology, and hard sciences by expanding into optical engineering (adapting innovative optical tools for deep-tissue neonatal imaging) and computational neuroscience (developing automated analysis scripts and mathematical models of microvascular networks).
· Top-Tier Infrastructure & Clinical Synergy: Deeply integrated into FMUC and CIBIT/ICNAS, a leading European biomedical hub facilitating seamless collaboration between basic neurobiologists, physicists, data scientists, and clinicians.
