About
We are currently implementing our proprietary OSA (pol. Osobisty System Alarmowy) personal safety, alarm and incident-detection system in Poland. OSA is designed to protect prison officers and other personnel working in correctional and custodial facilities. Using a wearable device, an officer can immediately trigger a silent or audible alarm. The system automatically identifies the officer’s location within the facility, displays it in the control room and supports a rapid, coordinated response to an incident.
Another important component of OSA is an AI-powered video analytics module that automatically analyses CCTV footage and detects potentially dangerous events. These may include violence, falls, self-harm attempts, unusual behaviour or other situations requiring immediate staff intervention. Alerts generated by wearable devices, location data and video analytics can be integrated within a single platform, providing control-room personnel with a more complete overview of each incident.
We already have pilot OSA installations in Polish prisons and in police detention facilities. These deployments allow us to test the system under real operational conditions, gather feedback from officers and adapt its functionality to the specific requirements of different custodial environments.
As part of the NCBR POLNORIS programme, together with a Norwegian partner, we plan to expand OSA by introducing wearable wristbands for inmates. The wristbands would continuously or periodically monitor key vital signs, including heart rate, body temperature and blood oxygen saturation. The collected data could be analysed to detect abnormal readings, sudden changes and potentially dangerous trends. When predefined thresholds are exceeded, the system could automatically notify prison or medical personnel, indicating the person concerned and their location.
The wristbands would support the early identification of medical emergencies, loss of consciousness, severe stress, self-harm risks and other potentially life-threatening situations. By combining physiological data with location information and AI-based video analysis, the extended OSA platform could help staff assess incidents more quickly and direct assistance to the correct location without delay. The solution could be particularly valuable during the night, in isolation cells and in situations where an inmate is unable to call for help.
The project aims to improve security, healthcare and emergency-response standards in correctional facilities. It will be developed in accordance with the principles of necessity and proportionality, with full respect for human rights, privacy, personal data protection and the dignity of persons deprived of liberty. Access to health data will be strictly controlled, and the system will be designed to collect only the information necessary to protect inmates’ health and lives.
