Integrated Contamination Identification System

director, prof. at Institute of Environmental Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences

Zabrze, Poland

About

Today's environmental threats to all three natural resources – from air pollution,  water contamination to soil degradation – require modern and comprehensive monitoring, forecasting, warning, reporting and prevention tools based
on foundamental and applied sciences.

Current solutions in the country operate in a distributed manner: each focuses
on one type of threat. This approach hinders a quick, reliable and precise assessment of the situation, and thus limits the effectiveness of protection and remedial measures.

The System proposed as part of the project is an innovative, comprehensive solution that collects and analyses data on air, water and soil in a single environment
(IT system, analytical system and new measuring devices).

A key element of the system is the possibility to simultaneously take into account the interactions between these areas, e.g. the migration of pollutants from the air through the soil to groundwater or the secondary effects of emissions into
the atmosphere and the synergy of these effects.

Thanks to this, the system provides
complex picture of threats,
their causes andpotential consequences
