COHERE: From Undertourism to Resilient and Sustainable Destinations (CUE2)

Martynas Radzevičius

Researcher at Kauno kolegija Higher Education Institution

Kaunas, Lithuania

About

We believe that sustainable tourism in Europe’s undertourism destinations can only succeed if it creates fair local benefits, strengthens heritage vitality, and builds community trust.

With COHERE – Community-Owned Heritage & Equitable Regenerative Tourism, we apply research-driven tools, circular economy principles, and Living Labs to make this possible.

In COHERE with are going to:

  • Analyse how tourism value is created, circulates, or leaks in undertourism areas.

  • Develop the Circular Heritage Impact & Equity Index (CHI²) and an open dashboard for transparent monitoring.

  • Co-design & test small-scale interventions in Living Labs (e.g., local procurement pooling, reuse schemes, transparent benefit-sharing, slow tourism products).

  • Translate findings into practical toolkits, templates, and governance models that small administrations can adopt.

Goal & Result
Our goal is to create a replicable framework for circular, equitable, and heritage-positive tourism. Expected results include a validated indicator set, transparent benefit-sharing models, and lightweight instruments tested through Living Labs and ready for replication in other regions.

Our Contribution
We specialise in tourism, hospitality, marketing, and business management. We bring expertise in visitor experience, destination development, and sustainable business models. Beyond this proposal, we are open to joining other projects where tourism and hospitality, sustainability, heritage and experience design intersect with marketing innovation and regional development.

If your organisation is developing a project in these areas, we would be glad to collaborate, too.
