Pilot City for Sustainable Tourism Distribution

Lucía Toledo

Innovation Agent at Ayuntamiento de La Vall d'Uixó

La Vall d'Uixó, Spain

About

The Municipality aims to become a pilot city for testing innovative, sustainable tourism solutions that ensure visitor flows are distributed across the urban area in a balanced, citizen‑friendly way. Our goal is to prevent tourism pressure from concentrating in a single entry point and instead guide visitors through diverse neighbourhoods, supporting local commerce while safeguarding residents’ daily life.

The city is currently developing new cultural and natural attractions—such as the Ruta de l’Aigua and the future Tourism Centre at the Torre de Benizahat. However, we require a comprehensive strategy supported by digital tools, data‑driven decision‑making, and smart city approaches.

This opportunity aligns with CUE Topic 2: Sustainable Tourism – Circular Benefits and Challenges, addressing the need to build sustainable tourism models before negative impacts emerge.

We welcome partners from research, innovation, technology, urban planning, circular economy, and sustainable tourism sectors to collaborate on shaping a resilient, inclusive, and citizen‑centred tourism model.
