Piandoro - Piemonte DOC Riesling
Chief Executive Officer at TENUTE SELLA 1671
Lessona, Italy
About
Piandoro is an interpretation of Riesling grown in the Brusnengo area of Upper Piedmont.
The result is a fresh and satisfying wine, characterised by an intriguing bouquet and by its ability to preserve the delicacy and aromatic intensity typical of Riesling, even in the Alto Piemonte context.
The vineyards are located on terraced hillsides between 250 and 300 metres above sea level, with southwest exposure. The vines, with an average age of 30 years, are trained using the traditional Guyot system and grow on loose, volcanic, pH-acid soils.
After destemming and crushing, the grapes are gently pressed, and the must remains in contact with its lees for five days. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, followed by ageing on lees with bâtonnage for six months.
Malolactic fermentation is not carried out.
Thanks to its freshness and aromatic profile, Piandoro is a delicate and expressive wine, with an ageing potential of up to three years from harvest.
