ATLAS – Vacuum-Buoyancy Persistent Atmospheric Platform
CEO at Vauxminster Aernautics Ltd

About
ATLAS is Vauxminster Aeronautics' next-generation persistent atmospheric platform, using patented vacuum-buoyancy technology to provide lift without helium or hydrogen.
Designed as a solar-electric, long-endurance aerial platform, ATLAS combines passive buoyancy with propulsion, energy storage and modular payload systems. The aim is to create persistent airborne infrastructure capable of operating between conventional aircraft and satellites.
Potential applications include 5G/6G and non-terrestrial network (NTN) communications, resilient and emergency connectivity, defence and ISR, maritime surveillance, environmental monitoring, Earth observation and near-space technology testing.
Unlike conventional high-altitude balloons and airships, ATLAS does not consume or lose lifting gas. Unlike heavier-than-air solar UAVs, it does not require continuous aerodynamic lift. This creates the potential for very long endurance, reduced operating costs and scalable payload capacity.
The core technology isVauxminster'ss patented lightweight vacuum structure, comprising nested geodesic structures, radial load-transfer members and a vacuum membrane. Structural modelling and independent analysis have been undertaken with Cranfield University, and the programme is now progressing toward hardware and subsystem validation.
The planned development pathway includes a 12–15 m demonstrator, initially undertaking tethered testing before progressing toward powered solar-electric flight and endurance testing.
Vauxminster is seeking international technology and commercial partners to help develop ATLAS, particularly in advanced composites and manufacturing, 5G/6G and NTN communications, sensing and payloads, autonomous systems, solar-electric power, systems integration and aerospace testing.
For the UK–Singapore Collaborative R&D programme, we are particularly interested in integrating Singapore-developed technologies into ATLAS and jointly developing and validating the subsystems required for a future flight demonstrator.
