National Institute of Research and Development for Biological Sciences

National Institute of Research and Development for Biological Sciences (INCDSB) is a public research organisation with a long-standing mission to advance excellence in biological sciences and applied biotechnology, supporting sustainable development, environmental protection, and the bioeconomy.

INCDSB conducts interdisciplinary research across a broad spectrum of domains, including green biotechnology, microbial and plant biotechnologies, bioresources valorisation, environmental biotechnology, sustainable biomanufacturing, and nature-based solutions. The Institute combines fundamental research with applied research and innovation activities, addressing societal challenges related to sustainable agriculture, soil and ecosystem health, biodiversity conservation, and bio-based industries.

INCDSB is actively involved in national and European research and innovation programmes, including Horizon Europe, and contributes to EU strategic and policy-oriented processes related to agriculture, food systems, and the circular bioeconomy. Through its engagement in European initiatives and networks, the Institute supports the alignment of research priorities with EU strategies such as the European Green Deal, the EU Bioeconomy Strategy, and Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) principles.
