Bringing Soils to Life by Connecting People, Science and Local Action

Senior Scientific Researcher at National Institute of Research and Development for Biological Sciences

Bucharest, Romania

About

  • OBJECTIVES
Co-create and scale soil health innovations through Living Labs in diverse regions, including brownfield sites and international settings**.**

  • Promote soil literacy and public engagement through education, communication, and citizen science.

  • Build local capacity by empowering stakeholders with tools, training, and inclusive governance for sustainable soil management.

CHALLENGES

  1. Fragmentation and limited coordination

  2. Low public understanding of soil degradation

  3. Insufficient involvement of citizens and end-users

  4. Lack of accessible, engaging educational tools and policy-supporting data

MAIN ACTIVITIES

  • Develop and implement multi-actor Living Labs in diverse biogeographical and socio-economic contexts to co-create, test, and scale nature-based and soil-friendly practices

  • Co-design and deliver soil literacy campaigns and educational tools, to foster awareness, behavioural change, and citizen engagement.

  • Create and apply robust indicators and decision-support tools to assess the environmental, social, and economic impacts of soil health interventions

  • Promote cross-regional learning and policy alignment by facilitating knowledge exchange among stakeholders

EXPERTISE AND RESOURCES OFFERED

  • Multidisciplinary research in soil biology, including microbial consortia characterization, biostimulants, and nature-based solutions to improve soil fertility and structure.

  • Advanced laboratory infrastructure for physico-chemical and microbiological soil analysis, molecular biology techniques, and bioproduct development.

  • Experience in developing and testing innovative soil health solutions, such as microbial biostimulants and bio-based amendments, within national and EU-funded projects.

  • Capacity in valorisation of agro-industrial residues and circular bioeconomy approaches, promoting soil regeneration through sustainable resource use.

  • Proven record in science-society-policy interfacing, including coordination of stakeholder dialogues, citizen engagement, and public awareness campaigns.
