Seeking solutions - AI for Urban Noise Monitoring
AI and Data Project Manager at The Greater Paris Metropolis
Paris, France
About
The Greater Paris Metropolis has launched a strategic program to deploy ethical and sustainable AI in public policy. The initiative focuses on two main goals:
-
Accelerate AI adoption in local governments and public services.
-
Build a dynamic, internationally recognized urban AI ecosystem.
To implement this, the Métropole created the “ApproprIAtion Métropolitaine” program — a free, three-phase initiative for municipalities :
-
Training: Build AI literacy and identify local use cases.
-
Experimentation: Fund and support pilot AI projects.
-
Scaling: Expand successful solutions across the metropolitan area.
Current tracks include:
-
IA ECOPILOT (energy efficiency in public buildings – 60 cities)
-
IA Delivery Zones (urban logistics – 11 cities)
-
IA-BTP Match (construction material reuse – 3 EPTs)
-
IA Administration (process optimization – 26 cities)
Upcoming in 2025: new tracks on city center attractiveness, and noise monitoring.
AI solutions concerning noise monitoring answer different public issues such as :
-
Detect and monitor traffic noise in real time
-
Predict peak noise periods in busy neighborhoods
-
Identify and classify noise sources (e.g., cars, construction, nightlife)
-
Monitor and regulate construction site noise
-
Map noise pollution dynamically across the city
-
Analyze citizen complaints to detect recurring noise issues
-
Alert authorities when noise exceeds legal thresholds
-
Support urban planning with AI-driven acoustic insights
The Metropolis is actively seeking innovative startups to co-develop and scale impactful AI solutions for urban challenges
