About
Produced in the Colli Tortonesi appellation, in Piedmont, this 100% Barbera originates from south-west facing vineyards located at 220 meters above sea level, planted on calcareous-clayey soils. The vineyards lie on soils geologically identified as part of the “Mombisaggio formation,” composed of marly and clayey limestones exceptionally rich in marine fossils. The presence of marine fossils and shell fragments within these limestones and marls reflects an ancient marine geological profile which, once evolved into soil, contributes directly to the wine’s structural definition, pronounced minerality, and distinctive salinity.
Vines are trained according to the Guyot system, with a planting density of 4,500 vines per hectare. Vineyard management excludes the use of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or systemic products. Harvesting is carried out manually in the second half of September to ensure optimal ripeness and careful grape selection.
In the winery, the grapes are destemmed and transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation, which occurs spontaneously through indigenous yeasts. No sulfites are added at any stage. Following fermentation, the wine remains on its fine lees for approximately five months to enhance texture and complexity. The wine is not clarified or filtered.Ageing takes place for 12 months in stainless steel tanks, followed by an additional three months in bottle prior to release.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red color. The bouquet is vinous, complex, and concentrated, with pronounced red cherry notes complemented by delicate balsamic and spicy nuances. On the palate, tannins are smooth and well integrated. The wine is dry and vibrant, supported by Barbera’s natural acidity and a marked savory character that reflects its fossil-rich soils, leading to a persistent and lightly spicy finish. A structured and terroir-driven expression of Barbera, defined by freshness, salinity, and precision.
