About

The Department of Port Management and Shipping (PMS) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is a newly established academic unit within the School of Economics and Political Science, operating since the 2019–2020 academic year. It was created to address the modern needs of the maritime and port industry, offering a contemporary curriculum that reflects current developments in global shipping, port operations, and transport logistics.

The Department combines rigorous academic training with practical orientation, supported by faculty expertise and active student engagement. Its programs emphasize both foundational and applied research in shipping and port management, fostering an environment that promotes innovation, critical thinking, and industry relevance.

Research activity is a core pillar of the Department, with initiatives and projects that contribute to the evolving maritime sector. Academic staff and students collaborate to produce impactful research outputs, widely accessible to the broader community.

The Department also participates in the ERASMUS+ program and is a member of the European CIVIS network, encouraging mobility and international collaboration among students, academics, and researchers.
