Connected Fabric: Integral Platform for the Digital Product Passport
About
The fashion industry is at a turning point. The imminent Digital Product Passport (DPP) regulation from the European Union, which will be mandatory for the textile sector starting in 2026/2027, demands radical transparency throughout the entire value chain, from raw materials to end-of-life. At ASECOM, aware of this challenge and opportunity, we are launching "Connected Fabric": an ambitious project to develop a collaborative and standardized digital platform.
This platform will be the epicenter where all information required by the DPP will be centralized and managed. Our goal for "Connected Fabric" is to unite all stakeholders in the ecosystem, from manufacturers and raw material suppliers to brands, distributors, and waste managers. We will provide companies (both large and SMEs) and public entities with the necessary tools to:
-
Collect and standardize data on traceability, composition, manufacturing processes, environmental footprint, and care/recycling instructions efficiently.
-
Generate Digital Product Passports compliant with European regulations, accessible via unique identifiers (like QR codes).
-
Promote data interoperability across the entire supply chain, fostering collaboration and the exchange of verifiable information.
-
Empower consumers with clear and accessible information, allowing them to make more conscious purchasing decisions and extend the lifespan of their garments.
-
Optimize product lifecycle management, facilitating repair, reuse, and recycling, and moving towards a truly circular economy.
With "Connected Fabric," we aim not only to ensure regulatory compliance for the sector but also to position Spanish companies at the forefront of sustainability and digital innovation, creating a more transparent and responsible future for fashion.
