High temporal Resolution Water Quality and Weather Data

Golnaz Ezzati

Hydrochemist Research Officer at Agricultural Catchments Programme, Teagasc

Wexford, Ireland

About

The Agricultural Catchments Programme, established to monitor the effectiveness of EU Directive ‘Good Agricultural Practice for Protection of Waters,’ has collected over 14 years of 10-min basis data on different forms of nutrients [mainly nitrogen and phosphorus] concentrations , fluxes, stream flows, and climatic data, from six hydrologically different catchments all over Ireland.

There are seven met stations across our catchments collecting a range of parameters such as Temperatures (air and soil), Rainfall, Wind (speed and direction) and Potential Evapotranspiration. This data is regularly transferred to our associated website acpmet.ie where it is possible to see the most recent hour’s total (or average) for each parameter, access forecasts by Met Eireann and also to download reports for different time periods.

Having such great data set, unique in resolution for a long-term monitoring research programme, and sitting in a research institute with great water and soil laboratory facilities , give ACP a great platform to collaborate on various projects such as hydrology-geohydrology-climate sensitivity etc.

We have had PhD candidates, Master students, exchange researchers, hosted early career researchers, and ongoing outreach events and knowledge transfer activities to stakeholders, nationally and internationally.
