Targeting Bacterial Resilience and Optimizing Infectious Disease Management
International Projects Manager INiBICA at INiBICA – Institute for Biomedical Research of Cádiz
Cadiz, Spain
About
This research spans from bench to bedside, addressing key challenges in infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance. At the molecular level, it investigates how bacterial stress responses and metabolic pathways enable pathogens like E. coli to withstand antibiotic treatment, identifying novel targets to disrupt these defenses and enhance drug efficacy.
In parallel, clinical and implementation studies focus on optimizing how infections are managed in real-world healthcare settings. This includes evaluating and shortening antibiotic regimens, reintroducing older antibiotics for resistant strains, and strengthening stewardship practices. Additionally, this work extends to integrated care approaches for patients with HIV and chronic conditions, improving treatment adherence and outcomes through innovative care models and multi-center collaborations. Together, these lines of work aim to advance both the scientific understanding of bacterial resilience and the practical delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care.
