About
BARBARA (Building Adaptation and Resilience for Biocultural Assets and Regional Authorities) is a consortium-building initiative being developed for the Horizon Europe Mission Adaptation call HORIZON-MISS-2026-01-CLIMA-05.
Europe's cultural heritage is increasingly exposed to climate-related risks including floods, droughts, heatwaves, wildfires, ecosystem degradation, coastal pressures, and changing hydrological conditions. These challenges affect historic buildings, cultural landscapes, waterways, archives, collections, archaeological sites, and other heritage assets that contribute to local identity, social cohesion, tourism, and regional development.
BARBARA seeks to bring together organisations from across Europe to explore collaborative approaches that strengthen the protection and preservation of cultural heritage while supporting climate adaptation and territorial resilience. The initiative aims to foster cooperation between heritage, environmental, adaptation, governance, research, and community stakeholders while contributing to the objectives of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change.
We are currently seeking organisations interested in joining the consortium-building phase. Relevant partners may include:
• Cultural heritage institutions and heritage networks
• Municipalities, regions, and public authorities
• Universities and research organisations
• Climate adaptation and environmental organisations
• Water, river basin, watershed, and coastal management bodies
• Nature-based solution practitioners
• Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) organisations
• Civil society and community engagement organisations
• SMEs and innovation actors
• Digitalisation, software, IT, and technology organisations with proven experience in Horizon Europe or other EU-funded projects
• Territorial, regional, and European networks
---> Organisations interested in participating are invited to submit an Expression of Interest including:
• Organisation name
• Contact person
• Country
• Organisation profile
• Proposed contribution
• Presentation, brochure, capability statement, or relevant supporting material (if available)
