The Living Museum: AI-Powered Curation of User-Generated Content
General Manager at Moco Museum Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain
About
To develop an AI-driven solution that can efficiently manage, analyze, and creatively repurpose user-generated content to enhance the Moco visitor experience — both onsite and online — while ensuring curatorial integrity, brand consistency, and data ethics.
The goal is to transform the chaotic abundance of user-generated material into structured, meaningful, and dynamic exhibition narratives, bridging the gap between the museum’s official content and the authentic voice of its community.
Key Objectives
-
Content Intelligence & Curation
-
Automatically collect, classify, and tag user-generated content (photos, videos, comments, hashtags, reviews) from multiple platforms.
-
Use AI-based semantic analysis to identify emerging themes, emotional tone, visitor insights, and content quality.
-
Generate real-time curatorial dashboards highlighting the most engaging artworks, installations, and visitor reactions.
-
Creative Reuse of UGC
-
Develop tools that can automatically generate exhibition-specific storytelling layers combining curatorial text and visitor content (e.g. quotes, reactions, or short video snippets).
-
Enable the dynamic display of curated UGC on museum screens, digital guides, or the website — creating a living, evolving exhibition narrative.
-
Explore AI-assisted content transformation, where user posts are reinterpreted as poetic summaries, digital collages, or immersive media elements.
Personalization & Feedback Loop
-
Leverage AI to personalize content recommendations for visitors based on interests and previous interactions (both online and onsite).
-
Allow visitors to interact with AI assistants during or after the visit — for example, to discover the story behind a viral artwork, or see how other visitors responded to the same piece.
-
Use insights from user content to improve curatorial planning, marketing, and visitor experience design.
Governance, Ethics & Authenticity
-
Ensure proper consent, copyright, and attribution for reused content.
-
Use AI to detect inappropriate or off-brand content automatically.
-
Maintain a balance between authentic visitor voices and Moco’s curatorial tone.
Challenge Goals
-
Automation & Efficiency: Reduce the manual time spent reviewing and selecting user-generated content for exhibitions and marketing.
-
Engagement & Participation: Increase visitor interaction by integrating community voices directly into the exhibition experience.
-
Brand Integrity: Preserve artistic and curatorial standards while amplifying authentic visitor perspectives.
-
Data-Driven Insights: Turn visitor-generated data into actionable understanding of behavior, trends, and emotional responses.
Expected Deliverables
-
A prototype or platform integrating AI tools for content collection, analysis, and creative reuse.
-
A workflow connecting curatorial, marketing, and visitor experience teams.
-
Metrics to evaluate improvements in engagement, curation efficiency, and content diversity.
Not Looking For
-
Static social media walls or simple hashtag aggregators.
-
Conventional marketing analytics dashboards detached from the museum experience.
-
