TAGEM is a central general directorate under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, comprising 49 different research institutes in various disciplines. The Poultry Research Institute (TAEM) is a research center affiliated with TAGEM, located in Ankara, the capital of Türkiye. TAEM focuses on national data collection and evaluation for poultry research, coordinating strategic studies on breeding, rearing methods, feed technology, and nutrition, while utilizing biotechnological approaches to preserve and enhance local genetic resources and hybrids. Their main goal is to continuously develop and market high-yield, healthy parent genotypes for the poultry sector. The TAEM produces breeder eggs/chicks, hybrid chicks, and table eggs, markets them through a revolving fund, and collaborates on R&D with various organizations, including public, private, and NGOs like Yum-Bir and Besd-Bir, as well as international projects. Education is a key component of their work, involving researcher training, publishing in the Poultry Research Journal, attending industry events, supporting postgraduate studies, and offering university internships. Ultimately, the TAEM aims to become a global leader in indigenous layer breeding through scientific innovation, quality, and sustainability, poultry developments.
