HORIZON-CL5-2027-05-D2-08: Demonstration for Long-duration Battery Energy Storage Systems (BATT4EU Partnership)

With more than 4 GWh of stationary energy storage solutions planned from 2026 and end to end battery system development carried out entirely in house, SIRO is strongly positioned to support the HORIZON CL5-2027-05-D2-08 call by delivering real demonstrator hardware rather than design studies alone. System architecture, structural design, thermal management, E/E and controls, BMS hardware architecture and embedded software, testing and validation are all covered internally, and the resulting systems can be manufactured in series in SIRO's own plant with full traceability of components and production data. For long duration storage specifically, SIRO can contribute to the design of systems optimised for very high cycle counts and long calendar life, including cell selection and characterisation, degradation and cycle life validation programmes, thermal strategies for continuous low rate operation, safety concepts, and BMS and communication architectures suitable for large multi string installations interfacing with higher level energy management systems. Complementing the demonstration phase, the teardown, service, maintenance and root cause analysis capability of the Battery Excellence Center supports operation and maintenance of a demonstrator and the assessment of real degradation against models. Second life applications, an explicit strategic goal of the company, offer a further contribution axis for long duration storage concepts. Beyond technology, SIRO can host or support a demonstration site in Türkiye, offering a grid and climate context that complements demonstrations in Southern and Central Europe. Work packages of interest cover system design and integration, BMS and control software, manufacturing of demonstrator systems, field demonstration and monitoring, degradation and lifetime validation, and business case and exploitation.
