About
As an energy storage manufacturer currently industrialising its own cell production, with 10 GWh planned from 2027 scaling to 20 GWh by 2031 and beyond 50 GWh by 2035 alongside an existing serial module and pack plant, SIRO is uniquely positioned to support the HORIZON-CL5-2027-02-D2-06 call in demonstrating energy efficient, cost competitive and sustainable cell manufacturing techniques. What SIRO brings is a real and newly designed industrial environment in which novel production techniques can be assessed, transferred and validated at a relevant scale, rather than only in a laboratory setting. Underpinning this, SIRO's cell development laboratory covers active material development, electrode preparation and coin and pouch cell assembly below 1 Ah, supported by glove box, mixer, drying ovens, particle sizer, BET,potentiostat, cycler and climate chambers. These capabilities allow SIRO to take part in process and performance correlation studies, to screen alternative electrode formulations and processing routes for both lithium ion and sodium ion chemistries, and to provide early feedback on manufacturability. Directly relevant to the sustainability and supply chain resilience objectives of the call, localisation of cathode and anode active material production making use of regional mineral resources is an explicit company goal. Digitalisation forms a second axis of contribution. Drawing on its traceable stock, production and quality management system and on its E/E, controls and BMS software competences, SIRO can contribute to inline quality control, data acquisition and digitalised process optimisation. Because module and pack design and production are carried out in house, newly developed cells can then be integrated into complete systems and validated under realistic conditions through EOL and drive cycle testing, providing system level evidence of the benefits of the new production techniques. Work packages of interest cover pilot and industrial scale process validation, inline quality control and digital process optimisation, cell to pack integration and validation, techno economic assessment, and industrial exploitation.
