About
GreenBrain Science is a deep-tech spin-off of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), founded by twin brothers Dr. Rubén Cuevas and Dr. Ángel Cuevas, who are both professors at UC3M. With more than 20 years of experience participating in European, national and regional research, innovation and technology-transfer projects, the founders combine academic expertise with the development of practical technologies for more efficient and sustainable digital services.
GreenBrain Science offers its technology to organisations, technology providers, consultancies, system integrators and other partners seeking to help their clients control and optimise the cost and environmental impact of artificial intelligence. Our solution enables customers to understand how AI is being used, measure its operational footprint and identify more efficient ways to process AI requests.
Our flagship technology, GreenBrain AI, is an intelligent middleware layer that monitors and optimises the use of generative AI. It analyses the requirements and complexity of each request and dynamically routes it to the most appropriate model from a portfolio of AI providers. Instead of using the same premium model for every task, GreenBrain AI selects the most suitable option according to factors such as quality, cost, energy consumption and latency.
This model-agnostic approach allows organisations to use multiple AI models and providers without becoming dependent on a single vendor. The technology can be integrated into existing applications, enterprise platforms, digital services and AI workflows, providing an optimisation layer between the customer’s systems and the selected AI models. It can support organisations at different stages of AI adoption, from measuring current usage and identifying inefficiencies to implementing automated optimisation policies.
GreenBrain Science helps customers measure the cost and energy consumption associated with their AI activity, identify the main sources of inefficiency, compare alternative models and providers, and establish performance, cost and sustainability indicators. The platform can then optimise AI usage by selecting the most appropriate model for each request while maintaining the required quality threshold. This enables customers to reduce unnecessary consumption without redesigning their entire AI infrastructure.
In an evaluation conducted by EY, GreenBrain AI achieved an approximately 64% reduction in cost and an approximately 68% reduction in energy consumption compared with a fixed premium-model baseline. The evaluation also reported comparable performance in open-ended reasoning and summarisation tasks, demonstrating the potential to improve efficiency while preserving the quality of AI outputs.
The technology can generate value for enterprises with high volumes of AI requests, public administrations, software companies, cloud and infrastructure providers, contact centres, financial institutions, media organisations, consultancies and companies integrating generative AI into their products or internal operations. It is particularly relevant for organisations seeking greater control over AI expenditure, improved resource efficiency, reduced environmental impact and more transparent reporting of AI-related consumption.
GreenBrain Science can offer its technology through direct deployment, integration with a partner’s platform, managed services, white-label solutions, customer pilots or joint consulting and implementation projects. We can provide technical support, integration assistance, customer demonstrations, performance analysis, KPI definition, optimisation recommendations and ongoing monitoring. The collaboration model can be adapted to the partner’s commercial strategy and the specific needs of its customers.
Partners can use GreenBrain AI to expand their portfolio of AI, cloud optimisation, digital transformation, sustainability or ESG services. By incorporating GreenBrain Science’s technology, they can offer customers a practical solution for measuring, optimising and reducing AI-related costs and energy consumption. GreenBrain Science contributes the technology, scientific expertise and optimisation methodologies, while partners can contribute customer relationships, sector knowledge, implementation capabilities and market reach.
Our objective is to help organisations adopt AI at scale in a more controlled, efficient and sustainable way. GreenBrain Science enables partners to provide their customers with measurable improvements in AI performance, cost efficiency and energy consumption, creating practical business value while supporting more responsible digital transformation.
