GreenBrain Science (GBS) is a deep-tech spin-off of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), founded by twin brothers Dr. Rubén Cuevas and Dr. Ángel Cuevas, who are both professors at UC3M and internationally recognized researchers in digital measurement, efficiency, transparency and sustainability. For more than 20 years, they have participated in European, national and regional research, innovation and technology-transfer projects, building extensive experience in scientific coordination, consortium collaboration, impact assessment and the development of solutions with practical industrial applications. Their academic and entrepreneurial background provides GreenBrain Science with a strong combination of scientific rigour, technological expertise and market orientation.

GBS is actively seeking to join European, national and regional consortia addressing digital transformation, artificial intelligence, energy efficiency, sustainability, climate action, responsible technology and the measurement of environmental impacts. We are particularly interested in collaborating with research institutions, universities, public administrations, technology companies, industrial partners, energy stakeholders, system integrators and organisations seeking to demonstrate the real-world impact of digital innovation. As a UC3M spin-off, we can contribute both the company’s technological capabilities and the scientific expertise of its founding team, supporting activities such as technology development, pilot implementation, data analysis, environmental impact assessment, methodology design, KPI definition, validation, exploitation and replication.

Our flagship technology, GreenBrain AI, is an intelligent middleware layer that optimises the use of generative artificial intelligence. It analyses the complexity and requirements of each request and dynamically routes it to the most appropriate model from a portfolio of AI providers. In this way, the system can select the most suitable “brain size” for each task, balancing quality, cost, energy consumption and environmental impact while avoiding dependence on a single model or provider. The technology is designed to support enterprise and public-sector deployments through a model-agnostic, privacy-first and scalable architecture. An independent evaluation conducted by EY reported approximately 64% lower costs and 68% lower energy consumption compared with an always-on premium-model baseline, while maintaining comparable performance in key evaluated tasks.

Beyond GreenBrain AI, GBS is developing a broader sustainability technology portfolio for measuring and improving the environmental performance of digital services, including websites, mobile applications, desktop software, advertising and media systems. Our methodologies support the quantification of energy use and carbon emissions, the identification of optimisation opportunities and the monitoring of environmental and operational KPIs. This enables organisations to pursue sustainability objectives while also improving business performance, efficiency and resource utilisation. Our work is supported by proprietary measurement and optimisation methodologies, ISO 14064-certified capabilities and a strong scientific foundation developed at UC3M.

Within collaborative projects, GreenBrain Science can contribute as a technology provider, pilot leader, technical work-package partner, scientific partner or exploitation and impact partner. We can help transform research results into demonstrable solutions, integrate sustainability measurement into digital platforms, develop intelligent optimisation components and validate technologies in representative operational environments. We are particularly interested in projects where AI, digital services or complex infrastructures must become more efficient, measurable, sustainable and scalable.
