About

Opportunity Summary

I am an independent LMIC energy innovator and Chemical and Process Engineer in Dar es Salaam. I developed and published a peer-reviewed household energy mix optimisation model that demonstrates large household energy cost reductions by integrating solar PV, grid electricity, gas/LPG, energy storage and efficient appliances. I am seeking a UK-registered lead partner to submit an Energy Catalyst application and co-deliver a pilot and scale-up in Tanzania.

Pilot Scope

  • Convert the published optimisation model into a deployable digital decision-support tool.

  • Pilot recommended energy configurations with ~300 mixed-income households in Dar es Salaam.

  • Implement monitoring, M&E and socio-economic assessment (cost savings, fuel switching, inclusion).

  • Co-design a commercialisation/replication pathway for other African cities.

What I offer (your LMIC partner)

  • Originator of the peer-reviewed model and local data for Dar es Salaam.

  • Local technical lead for household audits, stakeholder engagement, and pilot coordination.

  • In-country access to pilot sites and relationships with community stakeholders.

What we need from a UK lead partner

  • Act as the UK lead applicant and grant holder (Innovate UK/Energy Catalyst).

  • Develop the digital platform, lead grant management, and lead MEL/reporting.

  • Support business modelling, commercialisation strategy and international scale-up.

Project details and fit

  • Technical focus: Energy systems modelling, decision-support tools, energy optimisation, inclusive energy access.

  • Impact: affordability, reduced biomass use, improved reliability, scalable urban solution.

  • Indicative pilot timeline: 18–24 months. Indicative funding request: £250k–£450k (flexible).

  • Suggested roles and budget split: LMIC partner (local implementation and tech input) 20–35% of project budget; UK lead covers platform dev, grant admin, MEL.

IP and Collaboration Note

The model is the originator’s work and will be licensed for project use; IP and licensing terms can be negotiated and documented in the consortium agreement.
