BioWorld265 – Partnership Proposal for UK Administrative Lead

Project: Circular Biogas Access Malawi (CBAM)

A transformative initiative to scale decentralized biogas systems for clean cooking, productive use of energy, and rural livelihoods—delivering affordable, climate-smart energy to underserved communities across Malawi.

Call to Action

We invite a UK-registered SME, NGO, or research organisation to join us as Administrative Lead for our Energy Catalyst Round 11 application.

This role is required for UK grant compliance and consortium leadership. In return, you gain a strategic, delivery-ready partner embedded in Malawi’s energy access ecosystem.

Why This Project Is a Game-Changer in Malawi

Malawi continues to rely heavily on biomass and charcoal, driving deforestation, household air pollution, and economic vulnerability—especially for women and rural communities. Despite high demand, modern biogas remains under-scaled due to affordability, financing gaps, and limited local delivery capacity.

BioWorld265 addresses this gap through a circular, market-driven biogas model that converts organic waste into clean energy, integrates PAYGO financing, and enables productive use applications—leapfrogging traditional energy pathways while strengthening local value chains.

Impacts

· Environmental & Climate Impact

Reduces deforestation, methane emissions, and indoor air pollution by replacing charcoal and firewood with clean biogas. Promotes circular waste management using agricultural and organic residues while strengthening climate resilience.

· Economic & Market Impact

Lowers household energy costs and reduces Malawi’s reliance on unsustainable biomass. Creates green jobs in biogas installation, maintenance, waste aggregation, and appliance distribution. Unlocks productivity gains for MSMEs through reliable energy for agro-processing and small industries.

· Social, Gender & Inclusion Impact

Directly improves health outcomes for women and children by eliminating smoke exposure. Creates skilled employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for youth and women. Our PAYGO and community-based delivery model is intentionally designed to support women-led and rural SMEs.

The Partnership Offer

BioWorld265 brings:

Deep local implementation capacity in Malawi

Community access, trust, and beneficiary mobilisation
