About
IAS-DX – Integrated Assessment System for Deep Excavations | POLNORIS 2026
IAS-DX is an independently developed geotechnical assessment and engineering decision-support framework created by Magdalena Florczak, MSc Eng., its author and Scientific Lead. Developed over three years, it uses documentation and data from four construction projects. The database covers 32 assets: 14 railway, 4 road, 6 bridge and 8 buildings.
THE RESEARCH
IAS-DX addresses a practical gap in conventional excavation monitoring: similar ground displacements can produce very different structural responses. Rather than relying solely on generic alarm thresholds, the framework combines monitoring evidence with settlement-trough geometry, soil–structure interaction, foundation conditions, structural stiffness, existing damage and structure-specific vulnerability to support proportionate engineering decisions.
Four original, interconnected modules form the current framework:
-
DOCC – Documentation and Object Context Compilation
-
SETTLE – Settlement Effects, Trough Topology and Local Evolution Assessment
-
OSCAR – Object Susceptibility, Coupling and Response Assessment
-
MATCH – Mechanism-Matched Technical Control
The methodology is documented in research preprints deposited in Zenodo. Related inventive work includes Polish patent applications P.456717 (adaptive monitoring and engineering-structure diagnostics) and P.457093 (targeted acquisition of reconnaissance data).
The existing IAS-DX methods are Magdalena Florczak’s Background IP; access and rights to new results require consortium agreements.
Magdalena Florczak has more than a decade of experience in construction and infrastructure, including STRABAG, ARCHICOM and railway/civil engineeringTRAKCJA. She currently works as an Investment Implementation Specialist at Port Polska (CPK), focusing on railway and underground infrastructure. IAS-DX is developed independently of her employment.
Her academic background encompasses structural engineering, bridges and underground structures, complemented by business-law studies.
She is registered in the European Commission’s EU (EX2026D1551544).
IAS-DX research was presented at for example HAROS 2026 (France), with contributions for exampe to Tunnel Turkey 2026, WDM 2026, ICSGE 2027 and RIC 2027.
The paper “From Settlement Troughs to Construction Decisions: A Vulnerability-Based Framework for Monitoring Deep Excavation Impacts on Adjacent Infrastructure” has been accepted for the 20th Nordic Geotechnical Meeting (NGM 2027), Oslo.
PROPOSED R&D PROJECT
The planned 36-month POLNORIS 2026 project will develop IAS-DX into a scientifically validated, fully operational digital application for real infrastructure projects.
Proposed work includes:
-
Validation against field monitoring and comparative case studies.
-
3D deformation analysis and soil–structure interaction modelling.
-
Structure-specific vulnerability and reliability assessment.
-
Integration of sensor data, monitoring uncertainty and risk-informed alerts.
-
Development, testing and demonstration of engineering decision-support software.
PARTNERS SOUGHT
1. Polish Project Promoter
An eligible Polish research organisation willing to act as Project Promoter, coordinating the consortium and delivering substantive R&D work.
2. International Research Partner
At least one research organisation from Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, contributing scientific expertise, independent validation, modelling or field studies. Additional partners may be considered.
We seek expertise in geotechnics, deep excavations, underground construction, structural health monitoring, instrumentation, numerical modelling, digital systems and infrastructure risk assessment.
The Irena Sendler Foundation (Poland; KRS 0000912450), founded and chaired by Magdalena Florczak, is envisaged as a substantive Polish R&D partner with its own defined research work packages and budget.
Magdalena Florczak will retain scientific leadership of IAS-DX, with formal project roles to be agreed in line with POLNORIS rules.
FUNDING AND COOPERATION
POLNORIS 2026 allows up to EUR 1.75 million in project funding.
The proposed consortium aims for the highest eligible funding rates, ideally without mandatory own contributions, subject to applicable programme and state-aid rules.
We welcome research organisations interested in co-developing the research programme, responsibilities, validation approach and budget.
IAS-DX offers a basis for international research and safer infrastructure decisions.
