About

The Institute for Mobility and Urban Planning (IMOBIS) at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) is using an interdisciplinary approach to investigate how transport and urban structures can be organized and optimized in a resource-efficient manner. We are particularly interested in contributing to the 15-minute city Transition Pathway “Next steps for multimodal urban mobility, building on the travel experience”

 Project References:

  • Next Generation - Young People and Mobility: together with the ADAC Foundation and the Sinus Institute, IMOBIS explores the diverse lifestyles of young people and their impact on current and future mobility needs through boths qualitative and quantitative research methods

  • STRALI (Strategic charging infrastructure planning for the electrification of all urban transport) comprehensively examines technical, behavioral, economic, psychological, and spatial factors using multi-criteria analyses, to identify optimal charging point locations and assess their influence on mobility behavior. This holistic approach enables a well-founded analysis of both technical feasibility and user acceptance, as well as the overall impact on the urban mobility transition.

  • R2K-Klim+ is developing resilient logistics and transport structures through in-depth analyses of climate impacts on urban areas and mobility flows in the city of Duisburg. The project aims to create a data-driven decision-support tool to help stakeholders assess the implications of their actions under various climate change scenarios.

  • GlaMoBi – Mobility for All focuses on developing inclusive and just mobility solutions through real-world experimentation in the city of Gladbeck. It uses co-creative methods in living labs to test new mobility approaches with local communities, particularly targeting vulnerable groups. The project aims to break habitual mobility behaviors, generate evidence-based strategies, and create scalable models for equitable urban mobility systems.

  • Be-MoVe _a_dopts a holistic approach to advance the mobility transition in the city of Essen by creating an equitable and sustainable public space for all road users. Since 2019, it has been using living labs and actively involving the local community to study and co-develop transformative traffic and mobility solutions
