Circular Urban Tourism | Looking to join projects or build one together!

About

Tourism is one of the world’s largest industries and a vital part of city life—but in its current form, it puts pressure on local communities, the environment, and urban infrastructures. In the context of climate change, rising urbanisation, and social tensions around mass tourism, we urgently need new models that make travel regenerative, inclusive, and circular.

Circle Economy is developing an innovative framework for Circular Urban Tourism. By integrating environmental, economic, and social dimensions, we aim to help cities design, monitor, and implement tourism strategies that work for both residents and visitors.

We can bring together our partner cities—Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Copenhagen—and our partner organisations like UN-Habitat's Global Resilience Team to co-create something impactful. We are all travellers: tourism connects us with ourselves, with others, and with new places. But it needs to be done differently—so that it enriches communities rather than depleting them.

We are seeking to join an existing consortium or create one**.** This is an opportunity to access technical and scientific support, foster local innovation, and connect with a European network of cities leading the way towards a more sustainable, circular, and human-centred urban tourism.
