About

Expertise and research focus

Cardiovascular researcher with experience in human iPSC-derived cardiac organoids, cardiac fibrosis, metabolic stress, pharmacological interventions, and sex-related cardiovascular mechanisms. Background includes independent project leadership in cardiac fibrosis, Fulbright-supported research in cardiac organoid bioengineering, and international collaboration on human cardiac models.

The proposed contribution combines human cardiac experimental systems with metabolic, proteomic, imaging, and functional assessments to investigate the biological relevance of selected AI-prioritized biomarkers and treatment-response signatures.

Experimental capabilities

Models and research experience

  • Generation and experimental use of human iPSC-derived cardiac organoids.

  • Cardiovascular research involving fibrosis, metabolic stress, and pharmacological responses.

  • Sex-aware experimental design and investigation of hormonal mechanisms, where relevant and supported by the available models.

Contribution to TOOL-01

The proposed role is to provide mechanistic and functional evidence complementary to clinical biomarker development and validation.

Working with clinical and AI partners, selected biomarker-associated pathways or molecular signatures would be investigated in human cardiac models to:

  • Determine whether clinically identified signatures are accompanied by relevant metabolic, proteomic, structural, or calcium-handling alterations.

  • Test experimentally tractable pathways through pharmacological or other appropriate perturbations.

  • Assess whether interventions modify the associated cardiac phenotypes and molecular signatures.

  • Support the biological interpretation and prioritization of candidate biomarkers for further clinical assessment.

  • Explore sex-related differences where suitable cell lines, experimental conditions, and study design permit.

Experimental work would focus on candidates with a plausible cardiac mechanism and measurable endpoints in the available models. It would not replace independent clinical validation or establish patient-level predictive performance.

Expected project outputs

Depending on the agreed tasks, the contribution could deliver:

  • Quality-controlled experimental datasets linking selected molecular signatures to cardiac metabolic and functional phenotypes.

  • Comparative bioenergetic and respiratory profiles under defined disease-related and treatment conditions.

  • Protein-abundance profiles and imaging-based assessments supporting interpretation of candidate pathways.

  • Quantified calcium-transient responses to selected experimental conditions.

  • An integrated report identifying supportive, inconclusive, or contradictory experimental evidence for the investigated biomarker-associated mechanisms.

  • Documented protocols, metadata, and quality-control criteria to support reproducibility and integration with consortium analyses.

Consortium sought

A clinically led cardiovascular consortium bringing:

  • Longitudinal patient cohorts and independent clinical validation datasets.

  • AI and multimodal biomarker-discovery expertise.

  • A clearly defined clinical question concerning disease progression or treatment response.

  • Interest in a focused experimental task linking clinical signatures to human cardiac biology.

Preferred role
