About
Materia Group (AGECARE Cyprus Ltd) is seeking research and technology partners to develop and clinically validate AI-driven predictive models, digital biomarkers and personalised interventions targeting cognitive decline, neurodegeneration, frailty, disability and healthy ageing.
We are particularly interested in moving beyond traditional age-based risk assessment towards individualised prediction of cognitive and functional trajectories. This includes identifying risk factors for progression from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to dementia, distinguishing normal cognitive ageing from pathological decline, investigating cognitive reserve and superageing, and predicting responsiveness to non-pharmacological interventions.
What we can offer
Materia combines multidisciplinary healthcare services with experience in European clinical research, digital health and real-world technology validation.
Our previous projects include:
-
FRAILSAFE (Horizon 2020): Collection of data from over 200 participants, evaluation of wearable technologies, frailty monitoring and predictive approaches.
-
COCARE (AAL): Implementation of a 14-week randomised controlled trial (RCT) with 60 older adults, evaluating technology-supported cognitive-motor rehabilitation.
-
PROHEALTH (2024–2027): Participation in a multicentre pragmatic RCT targeting approximately 300 participants across the consortium, evaluating personalised cognitive-motor interventions, sensor-based monitoring and home rehabilitation.
-
GUIDed (AAL): Six iterative co-creation and evaluation phases involving 346 users across Cyprus, Poland and Austria.
-
AURA-Care (Eurostars): Four iterative co-creation cycles and a 10-month longitudinal field trial involving older adults, caregivers and healthcare professionals.
Our contribution can include participant recruitment, clinical and neuropsychological phenotyping, functional and cognitive assessments, biomarker collection, longitudinal monitoring, co-design, intervention delivery, usability testing, clinical validation, and evaluation of health-related outcomes.
Research interests and potential collaborations
We are looking to collaborate on:
-
AI and predictive modelling: Machine learning, explainable AI (XAI), multimodal data fusion, risk stratification, prediction of cognitive decline, frailty progression and falls.
-
Precision ageing and superageing: Cognitive reserve, resilience, preserved cognitive function in advanced age, biological versus chronological ageing, and protective factors associated with healthy longevity.
-
Personalised interventions: Adaptive cognitive training, cognitive-motor rehabilitation, exergaming, telerehabilitation and AI-supported intervention planning based on individual cognitive, functional and behavioural profiles.
-
Digital biomarkers: Wearable sensing, sleep and activity patterns, gait parameters, cognitive performance, remote assessment, ecological monitoring and longitudinal digital phenotyping.
-
Disability and independent living: AI-assisted rehabilitation, accessibility, assistive technologies, functional assessment and personalised support for people with physical, cognitive or neurological disabilities.
-
Clinical evaluation: RCTs, pragmatic trials, longitudinal cohort studies, feasibility studies, intervention efficacy, implementation research and real-world evidence.
We are particularly interested in joining consortia developing predictive algorithms that integrate clinical, neuropsychological, behavioural, biological and sensor-derived data, then use these predictions to inform personalised preventive or rehabilitative interventions.
Partners sought
We welcome collaboration with universities, AI and machine-learning research groups, neuroscience laboratories, hospitals, clinical trial units, biotechnology companies, digital health SMEs, and developers of wearable or assistive technologies.
Materia can contribute as a clinical research partner, pilot site, intervention and validation partner, or leader of work packages involving end-user engagement, clinical evaluation and real-world implementation.
