TOOL-01 | NanoAnalyzer: Multiplex Molecular Biomarker Measurement for AI-Based Prediction in Chronic Diseases

CEO of INTA at INTA

Pisa, Italy

About

INTA is seeking to join a consortium for HORIZON-HLTH-2027-02-TOOL-01 (Development of predictive biomarkers of disease progression and treatment response by using AI methodologies for chronic non-communicable diseases) as a technology partner, contributing its proprietary NanoAnalyzer platform for multiplex molecular biomarker measurement and integration into AI-driven predictive models.

NanoAnalyzer is a compact, portable, cartridge-based measurement platform combining Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) microfluidics, multiplex biosensing, integrated electronics and advanced data processing capabilities.

The platform is primarily designed for affinity-based biosensing, particularly antibody-based immunosensing for the simultaneous measurement of multiple protein biomarkers. Other compatible molecular recognition approaches, including aptamer-based assays, may also be considered following appropriate feasibility assessment.

The system is designed to generate multiplex molecular measurements from small-volume biological samples, providing an additional source of information that can potentially be integrated with clinical, imaging, physiological and digital biomarkers.

While NanoAnalyzer's first clinical application focuses on Traumatic Brain Injury, its underlying measurement technology could be adapted to biomarker panels relevant to other clinical applications, including chronic non-communicable diseases.

Our proposed contribution focuses on enabling the measurement of molecular biomarkers associated with disease progression and treatment response.

By integrating compatible assays and biomarker panels developed or identified by consortium partners, INTA aims to contribute molecular measurement capabilities to projects combining longitudinal clinical data, Real-World Data (RWD) and other biomarker modalities through established AI/ML methodologies.

Such an approach could support the identification, development and clinical validation of predictive biomarker combinations for improved disease monitoring, patient stratification and personalised treatment decisions.

INTA can contribute expertise and technologies in:

  • Multiplex molecular biomarker measurement, primarily through immunosensing.

  • Affinity-based biosensing platforms and integration of compatible molecular recognition approaches.

  • Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) microfluidics and biosensor integration.

  • Adaptation of partner-developed protein biomarker assays.

  • Analytical performance optimisation, measurement reproducibility and validation.

  • Quantitative molecular data acquisition and processing.

  • Integration of molecular measurements into multimodal datasets and AI-based analytical workflows.

Within a TOOL-01 project, INTA envisages collaborating with clinical researchers, biomarker specialists and AI developers to assess the technical feasibility of measuring disease-specific biomarker panels, optimise their analytical performance and contribute molecular data to the development of clinically meaningful predictive models.

The selection of biomarkers and the design of clinical validation activities would be driven by the consortium's disease-specific expertise and available clinical evidence. Integration of new assays into NanoAnalyzer would require appropriate compatibility assessments and joint development.

We are particularly interested in collaborating with universities, research institutes, hospitals, clinical research networks, biotechnology companies and AI developers working on chronic non-communicable diseases, excluding cancer.

We seek consortia with established or candidate biomarkers associated with disease progression or treatment response, access to longitudinal clinical cohorts and relevant Real-World Data, and expertise in multimodal data integration, trustworthy AI and independent clinical validation.

INTA aims to participate as a technology provider rather than consortium coordinator, complementing the consortium's clinical expertise, datasets and AI development capabilities with its proprietary molecular measurement platform.

Our objective is to contribute multiplex affinity-based biosensing capabilities to multidisciplinary projects advancing the development and clinical validation of predictive biomarkers, ultimately supporting more personalised and effective management of chronic diseases.
