IND-02 | NanoAnalyzer: Portable Multiplex Platform for Integration of Partner-Developed Diagnostic Assays

CEO of INTA at INTA

Pisa, Italy

About

INTA is seeking to join consortia for HORIZON-HLTH-2027-02-IND-02 (Portable and versatile Point-of-Care Diagnostics) as a technology partner, providing its proprietary NanoAnalyzer platform for the integration, optimisation and validation of diagnostic assays developed by other consortium members.

NanoAnalyzer is a compact, portable, cartridge-based multiplex measurement platform combining Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) microfluidics, biosensing technologies, integrated electronics and advanced data processing capabilities.

The platform is primarily designed for affinity-based biosensing, particularly immunosensing applications relying on antibody–antigen recognition. Its measurement architecture may also be adapted to other compatible molecular recognition approaches, including aptamer-based assays, subject to assay-specific technical feasibility and integration assessments.

This technological positioning makes NanoAnalyzer particularly relevant for partners developing immunoassays, protein biomarker panels and other affinity-based diagnostic methods who are interested in translating their assays into portable, integrated and potentially multiplex point-of-care solutions.

Our proposed collaboration model separates assay development from measurement platform development.

Consortium partners contribute their diagnostic assays, molecular recognition elements, biomarker panels, analytical protocols and disease-specific expertise. INTA contributes the technological infrastructure required to adapt and integrate compatible assays into a portable measurement system, including biosensor architecture, microfluidics, electronic signal acquisition and data processing.

Joint feasibility and development activities would address the compatibility of the assay's recognition chemistry and analytical protocol with NanoAnalyzer's sensing architecture, as well as relevant aspects such as surface functionalisation, sample preparation, analytical sensitivity and specificity, multiplexing and measurement reproducibility.

This approach could allow consortium partners to build upon existing assay development efforts without having to develop a complete point-of-care measurement instrument from scratch.

INTA can contribute expertise and technologies in:

  • Portable multiplex immunosensing and affinity-based biosensing platforms.

  • Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) microfluidics and acoustic sample manipulation.

  • Biosensor and cartridge design, including assay integration.

  • Electronic measurement systems, signal acquisition and processing.

  • Adaptation of antibody-based and other compatible affinity-based assays.

  • Multiplex data acquisition and AI/ML-assisted analysis.

  • Analytical performance optimisation, system integration and benchmarking.

Within an IND-02 project, INTA envisages contributing to the technical feasibility assessment, adaptation of partner-developed assays, integration into NanoAnalyzer, optimisation of the resulting point-of-care device and analytical performance evaluation.

These activities could support subsequent clinical validation and progression towards IVDR regulatory compliance in collaboration with clinical, regulatory and industrial partners.

We are particularly interested in collaborating with biotechnology companies, diagnostic assay developers, universities, research institutes, hospitals and other organisations possessing established or emerging affinity-based assays that could benefit from integration into a portable multiplex measurement platform.

Potential partners may contribute antibody-based immunoassays, aptamer-based recognition systems, innovative protein biomarker panels, clinical samples or application-specific expertise. The suitability of each assay would be assessed jointly according to its technical and analytical requirements.

INTA aims to participate as a technology provider rather than consortium coordinator, contributing its proprietary measurement technology and specialised engineering capabilities to multidisciplinary projects addressing clearly identified clinical needs.

Our objective is to establish complementary partnerships that combine existing assay expertise with NanoAnalyzer's measurement technology, accelerating the development of clinically relevant, accessible and cost-effective point-of-care diagnostic solutions.
