Associate Professor in Physical Activity & Sports Sciences - CIBER on Frailty and Healthy Aging at Universidad de Huelva

Huelva, Spain

About

I am an Associate Professor at the University of Huelva (Spain) and a researcher affiliated with CIBERFES, the Spanish Biomedical Research Network on Frailty and Healthy Ageing.

My research focuses on physical activity, sedentary behaviour, exercise and their relationships with health, disease prevention and quality of life. I combine epidemiological research with the design and evaluation of exercise and lifestyle interventions, with expertise that can contribute to research across different age groups, health conditions and settings.

What can I contribute to a Horizon Europe consortium?

I offer scientific and methodological expertise in:

  • Exercise and lifestyle interventions: Design, implementation and evaluation of physical activity, exercise and multicomponent lifestyle interventions, including randomised controlled trials and personalised approaches.

  • Wearables and movement behaviour assessment: Objective measurement of physical activity and sedentary behaviour using accelerometry and wearable technologies, with potential applications in digital health and remote monitoring.

  • Health and functional assessment: Evaluation of physical fitness, functional capacity, body composition, frailty, quality of life and other relevant health outcomes.

  • Epidemiology and research methodology: Study design, epidemiological analyses, outcome selection, data interpretation and evaluation of intervention effectiveness.

  • Multidisciplinary research: Collaboration across clinical, biomedical and public health disciplines, including scientific coordination and contribution to specific work packages.

Scientific experience

My research track record includes over 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications, with more than 70% published in Q1 journals. I have experience leading and coordinating competitively funded research projects, collaborating with national and international multidisciplinary teams, and serving as an Associate Editor of BMC Public Health.

I currently coordinate LIFE-CROHN, a collaborative research project involving six thematic areas of the Spanish CIBER network, focused on exercise and healthy nutrition as complementary strategies for chronic disease management.

Collaboration interests

I am interested in joining Horizon Europe consortia addressing health promotion, disease prevention and management, non-communicable diseases, disability and independent living, rehabilitation, neurodegenerative conditions, personalised healthcare and health outcomes across the lifespan.

I am also open to collaborations involving digital health, predictive modelling, artificial intelligence, virtual human twins and climate-related health challenges, where expertise in movement behaviours, wearable technologies, lifestyle interventions and health assessment can complement clinical and technological research.

I welcome collaboration with universities, research institutes, hospitals, public health organisations, patient associations and technology partners.

I am looking to contribute as a research partner or work package leader, bringing scientific expertise, methodological experience and a collaborative approach to the development and evaluation of innovative, evidence-based healthcare solutions.
