About
Clinical Exercise Physiology, Lifestyle Medicine & Longevity
Research Profile
The Department of Physiology research team at Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine, Türkiye, conducts clinical and translational research in exercise physiology, lifestyle medicine, cardiometabolic health, and physiological adaptations to exercise.
Our research focuses on chronic disease prevention and management, personalized interventions, exercise-responsive biomarkers, healthy ageing, healthspan, and longevity. We have experience in randomized controlled clinical trials investigating exercise as a therapeutic intervention.
Research Expertise and Capabilities
-
Exercise interventions and personalized training: Design and implementation of randomized controlled trials involving high-intensity interval training (HIIT), resistance training, and individualized FATmax-based exercise prescription. Our exercise laboratory incorporates the EN-Dynamic system (Enraf-Nonius), providing opportunities for physiotherapist-supervised, individualized resistance training, muscle-specific functional assessment, and precisely adjusted exercise loads across different ages and functional capacities.
-
Cardiorespiratory and functional assessment: Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), cardiorespiratory fitness, ventilatory thresholds, body composition, muscle strength, physical performance, and cardiometabolic outcomes.
-
Biomarker research: Investigation of circulating myokines and other exerkines, ELISA-based analyses, and associations between biochemical responses, metabolic health, and physiological adaptations.
-
Lifestyle medicine and nutritional interventions: Interdisciplinary collaboration with Nutrition and Dietetics and other health sciences disciplines enables the integration of exercise, individualized dietary modification, nutritional assessment, and behavioral interventions. Research interests include disease-specific lifestyle management, sustainable nutrition practices, and culinary medicine.
-
Behavioral and clinical research: Participant recruitment, intervention monitoring, adherence assessment, motivational interviewing, longitudinal follow-up, and clinical data analysis.
-
Healthcare professionals' health: Multidisciplinary research interests in occupational health, physical and psychological well-being, fatigue, stress, functional capacity, burnout prevention, and professional resilience.
-
Aerospace and environmental physiology: Interdisciplinary expertise in hypoxia, altitude-related physiological responses, physiological monitoring, cognitive workload assessment (NASA-TLX), human performance, and adaptation to extreme environments.
Clinical Infrastructure and Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Our research team benefits from the extensive clinical resources of Yeditepe University Kozyatağı and Koşuyolu Hospitals, offering multidisciplinary expertise, comprehensive diagnostic facilities, and access to diverse patient populations across medical specialties.
This clinical network provides opportunities for patient recruitment, disease-specific interventions, and translational studies across different clinical populations.
Collaborative opportunities also extend to specialized services in voice and vocal-fold health, including investigations of respiratory and vocal function, exercise-based rehabilitation, and occupational voice-related health in collaboration with relevant clinical specialists.
Potential Contributions to Horizon Europe Consortia
Our team offers expertise in:
-
Clinical trial design and implementation
-
Personalized exercise, nutritional, and lifestyle interventions
-
Cardiopulmonary and functional assessments
-
Physiological phenotyping and biomarker investigations
