Exercise, Wearables and Clinical Outcomes in NCD Interventions | HORIZON-HLTH-2027-02-DISEASE-01-two-stage

Associate Professor in Physical Activity & Sports Sciences - CIBER on Frailty and Healthy Aging at Universidad de Huelva

Huelva, Spain

About

I am an Associate Professor at the University of Huelva (Spain) and a researcher affiliated with CIBERFES, the Spanish Biomedical Research Network on Frailty and Healthy Ageing.

My research focuses on physical activity, sedentary behaviour, exercise interventions and their relationships with health and chronic diseases. I combine epidemiological approaches with intervention research, including the design and evaluation of exercise-based and multicomponent lifestyle interventions.

I am interested in contributing to innovative healthcare interventions for non-communicable diseases, particularly cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases and chronic kidney diseases.

My expertise can complement clinical research projects investigating non-pharmacological interventions or combined therapeutic approaches, as well as projects incorporating digital health technologies and objective monitoring of patient outcomes.

Expertise I can contribute:

  • Design, implementation and evaluation of exercise-based and multicomponent lifestyle interventions, including randomised controlled trials.

  • Objective monitoring of physical activity, sedentary behaviour and movement patterns using accelerometers and wearable technologies.

  • Assessment of physical fitness, functional capacity, body composition, physical performance and health-related quality of life.

  • Development and evaluation of personalised exercise approaches and behavioural interventions.

  • Epidemiological analyses, research methodology, outcome selection and intervention evaluation.

  • Multidisciplinary collaboration, scientific coordination and dissemination of research findings.

I have authored over 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications, with more than 70% published in Q1 journals. My experience also includes leading and coordinating competitively funded research projects and collaborating with national and international research teams.

I currently coordinate LIFE-CROHN, a multidisciplinary research project involving six thematic areas of the Spanish CIBER network, focused on exercise and healthy nutrition as complementary strategies in chronic disease management.

Collaboration sought:

I am seeking collaboration with universities, research institutes, hospitals, clinical research groups and technology partners developing innovative interventions for chronic non-communicable diseases.

I am open to different patient populations, intervention approaches and clinical settings, particularly projects integrating exercise, lifestyle interventions, wearable technologies and patient-centred health outcomes.

I would welcome opportunities to participate as a research partner or work package leader, contributing scientific and methodological expertise to the design, implementation and evaluation of innovative healthcare interventions.
