About
IBIMA is a multidisciplinary research institute in biomedicine and nanomedicine, centered around the Regional and Virgen de la Victoria University Hospitals in Málaga, in collaboration with Primary Care, the biotechnological research groups of the University of Málaga, and the Andalusian Centre for Nanomedicine and Biotechnology (BIONAND). Its main objective is to promote excellence in research, with a strong focus on translational science, ensuring that results can be effectively transferred to clinical practice, biotechnology, and other applications. IBIMA fosters the development and promotion of a multidisciplinary research environment in biomedicine and nanomedicine. It contributes to the scientific foundation of National Health System programs and policies, particularly in biomolecular, clinical, epidemiological, and technological translational research. The institute’s work facilitates the transfer of scientific advances in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the most prevalent health conditions at regional, national, and international levels. IBIMA integrates more than 70 research groups from the University of Málaga and the Public Health System across affiliated health centers. ### Research Areas - Cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and diabetes – Environmental determinants and lifestyle - Oncology and Hematology - Neurosciences, Chronicity, Aging, and Health in vulnerable populations - Autoimmune, infectious, inflammatory, and allergic diseases - Nanodiagnostics - Nanosystems and Advanced Therapies - IBIMA Rare – Rare diseases (Transversal area) - IBIMA Tech – Health Technology and Innovation (Transversal area) ### Our Research Groups with International Experience - Allergic Diseases to Drugs and Allergens (https://www.ibima.eu/grupo_investigacion/enfermedades-alergicas-farmacos-alergenos/)) - Hepatogastroenterology, Pharmacology, and Translational Clinical Therapeutics (https://www.ibima.eu/grupo_investigacion/farmacologia-terapeutica-clinica/)) - Obesity, Diabetes, and Their Comorbidities: Prevention and Treatment (https://www.ibima.eu/grupo_investigacion/obesidad-diabetes-y-sus-comorbilidades-prevencion-y-tratamiento/)) - Heart Failure and Ischemic Heart Disease (https://www.ibima.eu/grupo_investigacion/insuficiencia-cardiaca-y-cardiopatia-isquemica/)) - Basic, Clinical, and Epidemiological Research in Mental Health (https://www.ibima.eu/grupo_investigacion/grupo-investigacion-basica-clinica/)) - Neuropsychopharmacology (https://www.ibima.eu/grupo_investigacion/neuropsicofarmacologia/)) - Mental Health, Services, and Primary Care (SAMSERAP) (https://www.ibima.eu/grupo_investigacion/salud-mental-servicios-atencion-primaria/)) - Endocrinology and Nutrition, Diabetes, and Obesity (https://www.ibima.eu/grupo_investigacion/endocrinologia-nutricion-diabetes-obesidad/)) - Translational Research Group in Genitourinary Oncology (https://www.ibima.eu/grupo_investigacion/unidad-ibima-cnio-de-tumores-genitourinarios/)) - Translational Research Group in Cancer Immunotherapy (https://www.ibima.eu/grupo_investigacion/grupo-investigacion-traslacional-en-inmunoterapia-del-cancer/)) IBIMA actively participates in the dissemination and communication of its international projects through its website: 🔗 IBIMA International Research Projects (https://www.ibima.eu/proyectos-de-investigacion/))
