Universitat Jaume I (UJI) is a dynamic and deeply internationalised public higher education and research institution based in Castelló de la Plana, Spain. Founded with a forward-looking vision, the university serves approximately 15,000 students and consistently ranks among the top 600 universities globally (ARWU/Shanghai Ranking), as well as within the top 4% worldwide according to the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR).
Adrián Mota-Babiloni is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Construction at Universitat Jaume I (UJI). Currently, the Academic Director of Knowledge Transfer and Exchange at the Vice-Rectorate for Innovation, Transfer and Territory. He holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Production from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), obtained in 2016, and an Industrial Engineer degree from the Universitat Jaume I in 2011.
He conducts his research within the ISTENER group. His research interests focus on low Global Warming Potential (GWP) working fluids for refrigeration and air conditioning, ultra-low temperature refrigeration, Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC), and High-Temperature Heat Pumps (HTHP) for industrial heat recovery. He serves as PI for several national (AEI) and regional (UJI) competitive projects and collaborates with companies in the chemical, petrochemical, ICT, and refrigeration sectors. He currently has one patent pending.
To date, he has published ~100 scientific articles in Q1 journals and ~90 conference papers. His impact is reflected in >6000 citations on Scopus and an h-index of 48. He has performed over 350 reviews for international journals and the European Commission. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Applied Thermal Engineering (top 10%) and is a member of scientific associations such as IIFIIR, Atecyr, and KCORC. He has an extensive international background, with research stays and co-authored publications with institutions in Mexico, Belgium, Sweden, Italy, Brazil, Hungary, China, and Slovenia.
Notable honors include the 2023 Young Investigator Medal from the Royal Academy of Engineering, the UJI Young Researcher Award (2018), and the prestigious 2023 Leonardo Grant from the BBVA Foundation. He has been ranked among the world's top 2% of most influential scientists in the field of energy since 2019. According to Research.com, he is among the top 10 best young researchers in Spain.

The ISTENER lab (Universitat Jaume I) offers 15kW experimental testing services for advanced heat pumps and refrigeration. We evaluate varied compressors, components, and refrigerants for heating up to 160°C (transcritical) and cooling down to -86°C.
The ISTENER lab (UJI) offers advanced computational modeling and simulation for thermal systems. We specialize in thermodynamic cycle optimization, refrigerant analysis, and system design using Python, Matlab, and REFPROP/CoolProp.
