Experimental Testing of 15kW Heat Pumps & Refrigeration (160°C Heating to -86°C Cooling)
About
The ISTENER (Thermal and Energy Systems Engineering) research group at Universitat Jaume I (UJI) offers comprehensive experimental testing and validation services for advanced heat pumps and refrigeration systems. We are seeking to collaborate with or provide R&D services to CETPartnership consortiums focusing on zero-emission heating, cooling, and industrial thermal integration.
Our laboratory is equipped to evaluate 15kW thermal capacity systems across an exceptionally wide range of operating conditions. Our experimental capabilities cover:
-
High-Temperature Heating: Testing from standard residential heating conditions up to high-temperature industrial heat pump applications reaching 160 °C, including the evaluation of transcritical cycles.
-
Advanced Cooling & Refrigeration: Comprehensive testing from domestic cooling loads down to Ultra-Low Temperature (ULT) refrigeration at -86 °C.
-
Component & Architecture Versatility: We can integrate, test, and validate different system architectures, compressor technologies, and individual thermal components to optimize overall cycle efficiency.
-
Refrigerant Evaluation: Broad expertise in testing varied working fluids under real operating conditions, including the latest low-GWP synthetic alternatives, natural refrigerants, and complex zeotropic mixtures.
By partnering with ISTENER, projects can leverage our state-of-the-art laboratory infrastructure to validate prototype performance, optimize thermodynamic cycles, and accelerate the deployment of scalable, next-generation thermal technologies.
