Digital Twins, HIL/PHIL and AI-based Flexibility Management for Local and Regional Energy Systems
Associate Professor / Senior Researcher at University of Alcalá (UAH) – GEISER Research Group
Alcalá de Henares, Spain
About
The GEISER research group at the University of Alcalá (UAH), Spain, is interested in joining or developing CETPartnership proposals focused on the digitalisation, optimisation and flexible operation of local and regional energy systems.
Our research activities cover smart grids, microgrids, energy communities, distributed energy resources and flexibility markets, with particular expertise in:
-
Local flexibility markets and DSO-prosumer coordination
-
Virtual Power Plants (VPP) and DERMS-based operation
-
Energy management systems for PV, battery energy storage and hybrid energy systems
-
AI-based forecasting, optimisation and predictive energy management
-
Digital twins for power and energy systems
-
Congestion management and flexibility assessment
-
Integration and coordination of distributed energy resources
-
Interoperability and IEC 61850-based architectures
-
Hardware-in-the-loop and power-hardware-in-the-loop validation using OPAL-RT
-
Experimental validation of control, optimisation and energy management strategies
UAH can contribute both as an R&D partner and as a validation and demonstration partner. Our infrastructure includes OPAL-RT HIL/PHIL platforms, programmable power sources, PV-BESS experimental systems and access to campus-based energy infrastructure that can support realistic validation of flexibility, control and energy management solutions.
We are particularly interested in collaborations related to:
-
Energy system flexibility
-
Integrated regional and local energy systems
-
Energy communities and microgrids
-
Stationary energy storage
-
AI and digitalisation of energy systems
-
Resilience and secure operation of distributed energy systems
-
Sector coupling and renewable integration
We are looking for universities, research centres, DSOs, technology providers, municipalities, energy communities, aggregators and industrial partners interested in building transnational CETPartnership consortia.
UAH can contribute to modelling, algorithm development, optimisation, digital twins, experimental validation, demonstrators and technical work packages, and is open to joining proposals already under development.
