CL6-2026-CLIMATE-01 | Agricultural climate mitigation policy — Pacific Rim organic farm evidence base
CEO Founder at Greenback Ltd
Auckland, New Zealand
About
Greenback is building toward a verified multi-indicator environmental outcome dataset from organic farms in Aotearoa New Zealand, designed to be compatible with internationally recognised frameworks including ICVCM Core Carbon Principles, Verra's agricultural soil carbon methodology, SD VISta Nature Framework, and Accounting for Nature. This dataset does not yet exist — we are in pre-pilot phase and require a methodology validation phase before any farm-level data can be generated. The research problem is how to design a measurement approach that is simultaneously scientifically credible, practically affordable at farm scale, and compatible with the regulatory and market frameworks that corporate buyers need to make verified claims.
We hold a signed letter of intent from an anchor offtaker — a leading certified organic food company operating across Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia — confirming commercial intent to purchase verified credits once the methodology is validated. This grounds the policy research in a real transaction: what does a buyer actually need from a verification methodology to use the resulting data for CSRD, SBTi FLAG, and nature-positive reporting purposes?
We are seeking consortium partners working on agriculture and forestry climate mitigation policy, measurement framework design, or cross-jurisdictional policy comparison, where co-designing the measurement methodology and contributing Pacific Rim regulatory analysis would add value to the European-led evidence base. New Zealand operates a distinct agricultural policy environment — including mandatory organic products legislation, emissions trading scheme participation, and an emerging national biodiversity credit framework — that provides useful comparative material for examining how policy design shapes farmer behaviour and environmental outcomes.
