About

Our research group offers expertise in phytoremediation and soil restoration using high-biomass annual and perennial crops, including miscanthus, switchgrass, giant reed and sorghum, combined with soil-improving legumes. We focus on reducing soil pollution, enhancing carbon sequestration, and restoring soil fertility and ecosystem functions under degraded and contaminated conditions.

We can contribute to field testing and demonstration of nature-based solutions relevant for conflict-affected ecosystems in Ukraine, including the assessment of remediation efficiency, biomass recovery potential, and ecosystem resilience to climate change. Our experience supports scalable, cost-effective solutions aligned with zero-pollution, biodiversity restoration and circular bioeconomy goals, in close cooperation with local stakeholders and multi-actor consortia.

We are particularly interested in contributing to:

• Phytoremediation and assisted bioremediation using grasses and legumes

• Soil restoration strategies combining biomass production and contamination reduction

• Carbon sequestration potential of remediation crops as co-benefit

• Field-based monitoring of soil fertility recovery and ecosystem services

We seek collaboration as a research partner providing agronomic expertise, field validation and sustainability assessment to support scalable bioremediation solutions in Ukraine.
