HORIZON-CL6-2026-01-CIRCBIO-05-Understanding biomass flows in Europe

Assoc.Prof. at RECEP IRFAN NAZLI

ADANA, Türkiye

About

Our research group offers long-term experience in biomass production, characterisation and sustainability assessment of forage and bioenergy crops under Mediterranean and semi-arid conditions. We work on annual and perennial bioenergy crops (sorghum, maize, miscanthus, switchgrass, giant reed etc.) and manage diverse germplasm resources, including crops suitable for marginal and degraded lands.

We can contribute field-based data and regional case studies to improve the understanding of biomass supply, quality and sustainability trade-offs, including impacts on soil carbon sequestration, biodiversity, water retention and nutrient dynamics. Our expertise supports identifying under-exploited sustainable biomass streams and assessing synergies and tensions between food, feed, energy and ecosystem services.

We are particularly interested in contributing to:
• Regional biomass flow mapping and validation, especially in Mediterranean test regions
• Assessment of primary and secondary biomass quality for different end uses (feed, bioenergy, circular bioeconomy)
• Evaluation of sustainable biomass production on marginal lands and ecosystem restoration potential
• Stakeholder-oriented testing of biomass reporting approaches and policy-relevant indicators

We are open to collaborate as a research partner providing experimental data, sustainability indicators, and regional insights to support EU-wide biomass monitoring, modelling and reporting frameworks aligned with long-term (2050) bioresource scenarios.

Offering field data and expertise for testing biomass reporting, sustainability metrics and marginal land potential in Mediterranean regions
