About
Team Agro environment at Inagro has been conducting practice-oriented research for more than ten years into measures that enhance biodiversity in agricultural landscapes. The strength of our approach is that we develop and test innovative measures on our own trial fields, and co-test them with Flemish farmers within the real-world context of their farm management.
On the one hand, our research targets crop- and system-oriented practices such as agroforestry and species-rich grasslands; on the other hand, we invest specifically in species-focused agri-environment applications. In doing so, we often concentrate on specific species groups, such as arable and grassland birds, beneficial insects for natural pest control and pollination, bats, and so forth.
We possess deep expertise in a range of monitoring techniques to measure the biodiversity impact of these measures. And over the past five years digital tools have further strengthened our approach, with larger datasets yielding valuable additional insights. Our goal is to identify nature-based measures that not only deliver clear biodiversity benefits but are also readily integrable into contemporary Flemish farming practice. In addition, we provide policymakers with guidance for the development of, for example, paid agri-environment measures, and we invest strongly in clear communication about what works.
An inspiring example is our Inagro demonstration plot for nature-inclusive agriculture, where successful measures such as flower strips, partridge seed mixes, beetle banks, and buffer strips are established and showcased. Ultimately, through robust, data-driven research, we aim to deliver both practical guidelines and policy advice that enable farmers and policymakers to select and apply the best nature measures in a targeted, evidence-based way.
