I’m Valeria Paganizza, Associate Professor of Food and Agricultural Law. My background blends academic research and legal practice, with a focus on EU food law, sustainability, food safety, and innovation in the agrifood sector. I work on any topics related to food law. Just a few examples: novel foods, food analogues, food labelling, food supplements, botanicals, quality schemes, food contact materials, legal aspects of the circular economy.
I’ve contributed to several EU and national funded projects, including the Horizon 2020 SCALIBUR project, where I worked on the legal framework for the use of insects in food and feed, from different substrates, and helped shape regulatory recommendations.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to teach and lecture across Europe and beyond, including at Monash University (Australia), and to train professionals in both public authorities and the private sector.
I am currently working at the Department of Law, Politics and International Studies of the University of Parma, awarded the recognition of Department of Excellence 2023-2027, with the project Food for Future https://www.foodforfuture.unipr.it/en/home
As you can see, the faculty covers any area of law related to food and agriculture, including IP law, consumer law, contractual law, comparative law, and even historical law (just to make a few examples). Our aim is to contribute to more sustainable and legally sound food systems by fostering dialogue between policy, law, innovation, and real-world application.
I am thus here to bring the expertise of the whole Department, to add agrifood law, policy and governance profiles to developing proposals.
