Germany has more than 30,000 wind turbines and several hundred thousand solar and storage assets on public record, but the information sits in registers that are not connected. Asset data, permitting status, subsidy history, grid context and corporate ownership each live in a different place, and none of them are linked to the map.

Data foundation

17 live data domains from more than 60 official sources, each on a defined review and update cycle. Sources include the Marktstammdatenregister (the German national register of all generation, storage and consumption assets, operated by the federal regulator), EEG payment and asset data from the four transmission system operators, ALKIS cadastral data from the state surveying authorities, regional spatial plans from 16 planning authorities, and goal100's own permitting dataset built from permitting authority records.

Terminology for readers outside Germany

• MaStR (Marktstammdatenregister): the national asset register maintained by the Bundesnetzagentur, the federal network regulator

• EEG (Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz): the German renewable energy act, which governs the auction and remuneration regime

• Wirtschaftlich Berechtigte: beneficial owners, the natural persons ultimately behind a company
